Our first project was to recount the Vietnam War experience of Herbert Sennett from April 1969 to March 1970. The then young infantry second lieutenant was ordered to serve on a Mobile Advisory Team consisting of three (later five) enlisted men and two officers whose duty it was to give training and military advice to the Regional and Popular Forces of South Vietnam. He served in Vinh Long and Can Tho Provinces duirng his one year tour of duty.
During this time overseas, Lt. Sennett learned many things about people and particularly about poitics. However, the one thing he came away with was a renewed commitment to teaching as a life-long profession which he started almost immediately upon his return in 1970. After completing a Master's Degree from Memphis State University, Herb began teaching speech and drama in high school then later moved to teaching in college. Several years later, he earned two other
Although simply a recounting of Herb's story, this film also delves a little into some of the political lessons he learned along the way. The film is lovingly dedicatd to both the men and women who have suffered because of war. We at Creative Illusions Films hope that Dr. Sennett's story can both give comfort toboth veterans and their families. We also hope that a new look back at the Vietnam War can start a new dialogue about just what the purpose of war is and when it is and is not appropriate for a nation of free people should commit its best and brightest to any form of armed conflict.
This film was selected to be shown at nearly a dozen festivals and won "Best Film" at the ReBirth Film Festival in Jacksonville, Florida for 2007. The movie was also selected by the G.I. Film Festival for inclusion in the TV series they have developed in honor of the Veterans of the United States.
